Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 30, 2016) – A speedweek can be a daunting task for any sprint car driver let alone someone like Patrick Dills, who is only in his third year of racing. However, Dills is more than ready to tackle the Western Sprint Tour Northwest Speedweek next week.
“We did it last year for the first time and it didn’t go the way we wanted it to, especially over the Fourth of July weekend,” he said. “I junked a car at Cottage Grove. But I got to experience new tracks and race with the best 360 sprint car drivers in the nation.”
Dills will not compete at all six Speedweek events, opting out of the Sunday race at Sunset Speedway in Banks, Ore. His week journey will begin at his home track of Cottage Grove Speedway, where he is the defending track champion in the Extreme Sprints division, on Saturday with the Extreme Sprints class.
Dills will then change to a 360ci engine to join the Speedweek back at Cottage Grove Speedway on Monday. From there the tour heads to Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., on Tuesday and to Coos Bay Speedway in Coos Bay, Ore. on Wednesday. The Speedweek picks back up Friday at Siskiyou Motor Speedway in Yreka, Ca., before Dills plans to skip the finale to head back to Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday for another Extreme Sprints race.
“Last year our goal was to make the features during Speedweek,” he said. “This year our goal is to finish in the top 10 at each race. I believe we can accomplish that. We started accumulating the parts and pieces last year to do Speedweek. We’re ready.”
Dills said crew members will alternate with some attending each event.
“I have a great crew and while they all can’t make every show, I’ll have great help no matter what,” he added.
Dills said the biggest focus of the grueling week is to keep his confidence up.
“I have to stay confident and focus each night,” he said. “I can’t get down if we have a bad night.”
In the 18 years of the Northwest Speedweek some of the biggest names in racing have taken the title, including Steve Kent, Roger Crockett, Brent Kaeding, Brad Furr, Jesse Hockett, Bud Kaeding, Kyle Larson, Shane Stewart and Kyle Hirst.
“Speedweek can really get you noticed and I’m excited to be a part of it,” Dills said. “Hopefully I can turn some heads.”
