Inside Line Promotions – FORT PAYNE, Ala. (June 28, 2016) – Derek Hagar’s new nickname should be ‘Podium.’

Hagar earned his 21st podium finish of the season in 25 winged sprint car races last Friday at Moulton Speedway in Moulton, Ala., with the ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints.

The night began with Hagar advancing from fifth to second place in a heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 3 to start the main event on the inside of the second row.

“We had a good start and got to second early,” he said. “We threw on some used tires before the race. We made a wrong tire choice and backed up a bit. It just didn’t give me the grip I needed. We went out with a sealed tire thinking the race track would rubber up and it never did. It was one of those deals we tried to play it safe and it bit us.”

Hagar fell to fifth before he rebounded to end with a third-place result, which was his 11th straight podium finish.

The team headed to Fort Payne Speedway for an event on Saturday with the ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints. Hagar powered from fourth to second place in a heat race to make the feature redraw. However, there was a better part to the night than that.

“I brought my other car down and let my stepdad, Kenny Conrad, drive it,” he said. “I always wanted to race against him. He raced before I started. It was a cool experience to be on the track with him and race with him. It ended up being a cool weekend.”

Hagar pulled the highest number – eight – in the feature redraw to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and the feature was rained out.

Hagar is scheduled to tackle USCS events this Friday at Crowley’s Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark., and Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. Hagar has won a race at Crowley’s Ridge Raceway each of the last three seasons and at Riverside International Speedway the past three years counting this season.
