Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (June 27, 2016) – Trey Starks is eager to head east this weekend for a trio of Pennsylvania Speedweek races.
Starks will make his debut at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Md., on Wednesday when he will drive for Jeff McCall before piloting a sprint car for Scott Gobrecht on Thursday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., and Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
“I’m excited any time I can make it out to race in Pennsylvania,” Starks said. “I haven’t been to Hagerstown, but we’ve had some good runs at Port Royal and Williams Grove so I’m looking forward to this weekend when all the best drivers from the area will be racing.”
Starks has competed at Williams Grove Speedway and Port Royal Speedway once each this season. He placed fifth in a B Main to miss a transfer by only one spot during a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event at Williams Grove Speedway on May 20 and he recorded a 13th-place finish at Port Royal Speedway on May 29.
Starks is coming off a frustrating weekend during the 45th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway, where mechanical problems doomed his weekend racing with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
“It just wasn’t a good weekend,” he said. “On Thursday we rained out so we didn’t get to run. We started on Friday drawing a high number, which put us in the back of a heat. We had a big wreck in front of us. I turned hard right to miss it and did, but a car hit us in the right rear wide open. It basically cleaned everything out of the rear end. We had to put a whole rear end assembly in the car for the B Main.”
Starks, who was unable to finish the heat race, charged from ninth to third place in the consolation race to garner a transfer into the back of the main event. He then rallied from 21st to post a 10th-place result, which also earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
“We ended up surviving and coming home with a 10th-place finish,” he said. “After getting all the rain and having a rough track on Friday I was happy to survive and get a top 10 and roll it in the trailer. It was such a rough night.”
Unfortunately, the weekend only worsened. The team found a cracked piston during maintenance Saturday morning and had to put the spare engine in prior to Saturday’s race.
“We ran four laps in the heat race and we ended up having a mechanical failure,” he said. “So that put us out of motors and out for the remainder of the night.”
