John Carney II Ends ASCS Speedweek On A High Note

EL PASO, Texas (June 23, 2016) It was a test of driver and team to say the least, but John Carney II ended his first attempt at the ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek on a high note in the John James Racing No. 4j.

Taking on Lawton Tuesday night, Carney was battling in the top-five before getting upside down on the front stretch.

“We marched from 12th to the top five, and just got involved in a racing deal. The track was narrow and we were three wide off of four and we made contact and when we did, it peeled the tire off and fell onto its side. I was disappointed because I felt we had a shot at a top-three or at least a win” commented Carney.

Wednesday at Creek County Speedway, Carney said the car was top notch to start things off, but again, the night would end with the No. 4j going for a ride.

“On the start of the Heat Race, we were behind a guy with limited experience and I’m not sure if he hit some grease or what, but it was everything I could do to avoid him. I started slowing down, but the guy behind me couldn’t see what was going on so he kept pushing and when he did, we all ended up crashing and that one was more of a flip than a flop because it tore the car a part.”

Running on the spares to the spares into Friday at the Missouri State Fair Speedway, Carney was able to finally finish a night upright; just missing the transfer into the A-Feature despite a parts failure on the front suspension

“I thought I had just missed the setup because the car would push in the center of the corner but I was able to correct it and we started passing cars. We moved into a transfer spot and again, the car just pushed and that let Forler get by on the last lap,” said Carney. “I was actually lucky to even finish because when we got to the Pits, the Right Front was pointed a different direction than the Left Front. Come to find out, the steering arm stripped and the Left Front was the only one steering the car the whole race.”

Rolling into the final night at the Lucas Oil Speedway, parts were on point and the car was rolling free as Carney was able to an eighth place finish.

“We had actually anticipated the top blowing off and the bottom coming in, so we set up for that and the top never really did go away but the car was good. We were finally in contention and to get out with a top-ten made the week fell a whole lot better.”

Pulling double duty with the BOSS Chassis WAR, Carney’s night ended early.

“I’ve got to give a special thanks to John James and the whole crew. They went above and beyond this past week to keep this car on the track. It was rough, but when you work with great people, it makes it worth it. “

Looking to this coming weekend, Carney will head south to the Lone Stat Speedway for his debut with the Sprint Bandit Series.
