Tankersley Highlights ASCS Speedweek with Career-Best ASCS National Tour Finish

Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (June 21, 2016) – Channin Tankersley closed the 24th annual Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek with a pair of top-five finishes last weekend.

Tankersley, who competed in the final four Speedweek races for Brandon Berryman, kicked off last week on Wednesday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., where he finished fourth in a heat race before winning a B Main. That transferred him into the back of the main event, which was short-lived after Tankersley flipped early.

Following the 22nd-place finish the team ventured to Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., on Thursday.

“It was super slick, like greasy,” Tankersley said. “We were up to fifth in our heat race and probably would have run there. Another car went in there and used me like a pinball. It knocked the front end out. That put us behind the eight ball. We passed a few cars in the B Main, but wound up not making the A Main.”

Tankersley, who endured a DNF in the heat race, advanced from the back of the B Main to place eighth.

Results started to turn around on Friday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo. Tankersley advanced from third to second place in a heat race. That earned him a spot in the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 2 during the random draw to line up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“We had a pretty good car,” he said. “(Brandon) Hanks got to the lead and led the first couple of laps. We got around him and were solid. Then (Brad) Loyet got by us with about five laps to go. He pulled away a bit, but we started catching him at the end. I was on his bumper coming to the white flag. I was trying to set him up for a slide job and low and behold they had a caution.”

Tankersley held on for the runner-up result, which was his best career finish with the ASCS National Tour.

Speedweek concluded on Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway, where Tankersley flipped in a heat race. However, he rebounded by charging from ninth to win a B Main.

“We took the lead about five laps in,” he said. “We were really fast. I hit a tractor tire in turn one on the last lap. It knocked the front end out, but I kept going and won the B Main somehow.”

That transferred Tankersley into the 17th starting position for the feature.

“The track was pretty one lane around the top toward the middle and end of the race,” he said. “I’d go to the bottom to get a couple of positions on restarts and go right back to the top. We had a little bit of luck in the A Main. There were a few people who fell out, but we passed some cars.”

Tankersley rallied to score a fifth-place result, which was his eight top five of the season.

He is slated to be off the next month before ASCS Gulf South Region races on July 22 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and July 23 at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas.
