Inside Line Promotions – ORRVILLE, Ohio (June 21, 2016) – Josh Baughman is going 410ci sprint car racing for the next month.
Baughman has elected not to follow the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour to the West Coast. Instead he will tackle the remainder of Ohio Speedweek with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, the Lou Blaney Memorial, the Brad Doty Classic and the Kings Royal before rejoining the ASCS National Tour in late July.
“We raced Ohio Speedweek last year and our program took a big leap forward so we’re looking for the same type of improvement with all of the 410 racing we will be doing,” he said. “I think running 410 events helps when you go back to 360 competition.”
Baughman will compete on Tuesday at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio; Wednesday at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio; Friday at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio; and Saturday at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, for the remaining Ohio Speedweek events.
He has one Ohio Speedweek race under his belt as the team invaded Wayne County Speedway on Monday evening. Baughman qualified 20th quickest and finished fifth in a heat race, which relegated him into the B Main. He was in contention for a transfer position midway through the race when an incident with another car dropped him to a 13th-place finish.
Baughman is transitioning from one Speedweek to another as he wrapped up the 24th annual Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek last weekend.
Last week’s competition began on Wednesday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., where he placed fourth in a heat race and second in a B Main before charging from 19th to ninth during the main event. He earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., hosted an event on Thursday. Baughman ran third in a heat race, ninth in a qualifier and sixth in a B Main. That forced him to use a provisional to start at the back of the field in the main event, which ended with Baughman scoring a 23rd-place finish.
Baughman ventured to Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., on Friday. He opened the night by winning a heat race after starting third. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 5 during the random draw to start the main event on the inside of the third row.
“We were running third on the last lap when there was a caution,” he said. “We ended up sealing the tires over so when we restarted we fell all the way back to eighth.”
The team ran into similar misfortune on Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., during the Speedweek finale. Baughman advanced to second in a heat race and fourth in a qualifier to rank third in overall points.
“We were running third in the main event and popped a tire,” he said. “There was a lot of bad luck throughout ASCS Speedweek.”
Baughman, who was credited with a 14th-place result, finished 10th in the Speedweek standings.
