PETERSEN MEDIA: Looking to shake the streak of bad luck that has seemed to follow them race to race, Paul McMahan and his Destiny Motorsports team were able to pick up a pair of World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Top-10 finishes over the weekend.
“We were able to get our car better and better over the weekend and pick up a couple of Top-10 finishes, which is just what this team needed,” Paul McMahan said.
Friday night at the River Cites Speedway in Grand Forks, ND, McMahan would time the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine in 12th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Finishing fourth in his heat race, the Nashville, TN resident would line up in the eighth row for the 40-lap feature event. From his eighth row starting spot, McMahan was able to avoid an early tangle in front of him.
When the race got into a rhythm, McMahan was able to get his Rick Rogers Construction/Boss Signs and Graphics/Maxim moving in the right direction as he was able to work his way into the Top-10.
Getting by Jason Sides late in the race, McMahan would take over the seventh spot, where he would go on to finish.
Traveling to Aberdeen, SD for a Sunday night event, McMahan would look to build off of Friday night’s run as he timed in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials. Lining up third in his heat race, McMahan would finish third which placed him in the eighth starting position for the 35-lap feature event.
When the feature event went green, McMahan would hold his own inside the Top-10 as he would battle with Logan Schuchart and fellow Californian, Tim Kaeding for much of the feature event.
As the race came to a close, McMahan would take the checkered flag with a ninth place finish.
“We were pretty good on Friday night, and Sunday night we had a good night as well,” McMahan said. “It was starting to get a little ugly for us, so to come out and have two consistent nights is a huge shot in the arm for us. With some big races coming up soon, hopefully we can continue to improve and see what we can do. Rick and Barb Rogers do so much for us, and I sure do appreciate it.”
