Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 20, 2016) – Trey Starks scored his third straight victory last Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway.
The triumph gives him five wins this season at five different tracks – all in the last 14 races – and it was his first at the quarter-mile bullring since May 2015.
The night began just as strong as it ended with Starks setting quick time during qualifying.
“We drew the highest pill so we were last out, but Brian Crockett had the track sealed up pretty good because they were going to get some rain,” he said. “I knew it wasn’t going to matter where we went out because the track was pretty equal for everybody.”
Starks then advanced from fourth to second place during a trophy dash, which had no effect on the remainder of the race program. He maneuvered from sixth to second place in a heat race to lock himself into the feature redraw, where he came out starting on the pole for the 30-lap main event.
“I just knew I had to get a good start and set a really good pace because I had guys like Roger Crockett behind me,” he said. “We jumped out to the lead early. The track was real, real wide. The cushion was basically over the edge and the bottom was real narrow. It was a really good and racy race track. I tried to keep track of the track and make sure I was on the fastest part of the track at all time. The groove was changing throughout the race.”
Starks was effective in the lead as he picked up his third win in the last two seasons at Cottage Grove Speedway.
He will return to action this Thursday through Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., for the 45th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
“It’s great to be running good when one of the biggest races around home is coming up,” he said. “We’ve been to Skagit Speedway once this year and we won. I feel pretty confident.”
