Dodge City Raceway Park’s annual “Boothill Showdown” and the Steve King Memorial have melded into a Sprint Car mega-event on Friday and Saturday, July 1-2, with more than $70,000 in prize money to be distributed over the course of the weekend.
The NCRA Sprint Cars will battle it out for a lucrative $10,000 winner’s share while the URSS vs. Precise Racing Products DCRP 305-ci Sprint Cars vie for a $2,000 prize. The 1200-cc Colorado Lightning Sprints will be in action each night as well.
Along with the $10,000 winner’s share, Saturday’s NCRA feature offers up $500 to start, $1,200 for tenth and $2,500 for fifth. Saturday’s complete NCRA Sprint Car feature payout is as follows: 1. $10,000; 2. $6,000; 3. $3,000; 4. $2,700; 5. $2,500; 6. $2,200; 7. $2,000; 8. $1,700; 9. $1,500; 10. $1,200; 11. $1,000; 12. $800; 13. $700; 14. $600; 15 – 24. $500. Liberal native Tony Bruce, Jr., and Ness City’s Luke Cranston are reigning “Steve King Memorial” champions with TBJ topping the NCRA 360-ci Sprint Car portion of last year’s event and reigning track champ Cranston besting the URSS vs. DCRP Sprint Car contenders.
The Boothill Showdown’s Steve King Memorial is in memory of the popular Jetmore, KS, racer that lost his life in a 2006 Knoxville Nationals crash. The Steve King Foundation was established after his passing to assist members of the racing family in times of need. Tickets to the Boothill Showdown featuring the Steve King Memorial on July 1-2 are just $25 for adults each night with children 11 and under free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30 each night.
