Inside Line Promotions – LAWTON, Okla. (June 16, 2016) – Running a speedweek is a lot of hard work for a team. For Tommy Bryant and the Cooper Motorsports team, the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s 24th annual Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek is both a learning and fun experience.
Bryant’s sponsor, SawBlade.com, continued to promote the team through a saw give-away on Wednesday at Lawton Speedway during the team’s first ASCS Speedweek race. SawBlade plans to give a lucky fan a new saw at each of the remaining three Speedweek events.
“SawBlade also gave away some hats to the fans that came down to the trailer after the races Wednesday,” Bryant said. “We also gave our bent up front wing to a little kid and to see how happy that made him just capped off a good night.”
Speedweek didn’t get off to a great start as the first event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, rained out on Tuesday.
Bryant was among the 37 cars to compete on Wednesday at Lawton Speedway. Bryant pulled a bad pill to open the night, which started him seventh in a heat race. He advanced to place fifth, which put him in one of the two B Mains. Bryant recorded a runner-up finish to transfer into the A Main. He started 20th in the feature and raced up to eighth before ending with an 11th-place finish.
“The track took rubber and the car got tight in the middle,” he said. “When I had open track and could keep the nose clean it was great, but when I got to traffic it would push. But it was a good night. We made the show and there were a lot of good cars loaded up.”
Bryant will continue the Speedweek on Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.
“From what I hear it’s a tight, narrow, small quarter mile,” he said. “Then we head to Sedalia and I hear that’s a big flat track. Two very big extremes. I’ve never been to the next three tracks so I’m looking forward to the new experiences. Heck, I’ve never raced on a Wednesday night. It’s kind of cool to be racing during the week and not be at work.”
Bryant will then compete on Friday at the Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., and he will wrap up Speedweek on Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo.
“I’m told Lucas Oil Speedway is one of the premier facilities for sprint cars in the country,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to the exposure and showing what this team can do.”
