Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (June 14, 2016) – Channin Tankersley has become a podium machine.
Tankersley recorded his fifth podium finish in the last six ASCS Gulf South Region events on Saturday at Battleground Speedway to extend his lead in the championship standings to 90 points with seven races remaining this season.
“We want to win races, but if we’re consistently running up front we’ll accomplish all of our goals,” he said.
Saturday began with Tankersley maneuvering from sixth to third place in a heat race, which earned enough points to advance into the feature redraw. Tankersley pulled the No. 4 during the random redraw to start the main event on the outside of the second row.
“It was really fast paced,” he said. “They had a red flag early. After that it went green to checkered. The track was super fast with a good top and bottom. I ran third for pretty much the whole race. With a few laps to go the leader got in traffic and me and second place caught him. Second got around him and I got to second in traffic.”
Tankersley’s second-place finish gives him a series-leading six top fives in ninth races this season.
Last Friday’s ASCS Gulf South Region event at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, rained out.
