Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (June 14, 2016) – Ray Allen Kulhanek has a unique opportunity in front of him this week.
Kulhanek will tackle the remainder of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s 24th annual Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek, which will feature four straight nights of racing in Oklahoma and Missouri after Tuesday’s event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, rained out.
“Jeff and J.J. Simmons are giving me an opportunity,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting four consecutive nights of racing in with the ASCS National Tour.”
Kulhanek will make his winged sprint car debut at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., on Wednesday; at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., on Thursday; and at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., on Friday. The Speedweek wraps up on Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., where Kulhanek has competed once.
“I’ve seen a lot of videos of Lawton Speedway,” he said. “I’ve been wanting to race there for a while. That looks like a track that will fit my driving style. Creek County Speedway is a little bullring. I got to run there once in a non-wing deal. I’ve only seen one video of Missouri State Fair Speedway. That looks like a fairly decent sized track. And I look forward to going back to Lucas Oil Speedway. It’s a super nice facility.”
Kulhanek is coming off his third top five of the season last Saturday at Battleground Speedway with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
“We had a really good car in the heat race,” he said. “In the main I was just a tick off. I really wasn’t super comfortable the whole main. I kept searching on the race track trying to find a good line. I made three or four mistakes and you just can’t do that. I was really disappointed in myself on some of the decisions. We should have run better. It’s nice to be disappointed in running fourth. It could be a heck of a lot worse.”
Kulhanek won a heat race before he advanced from sixth to fourth place in the feature.
“I want to thank Marvin and Peggy Pearson for loaning me an engine to give me an opportunity to be at the races,” he said. “Without them I wouldn’t have been able to race.”
Last Friday’s ASCS Gulf South Region event rained out at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas.
Kulhanek currently ranks second in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings. He is 90 points behind the leader with seven races remaining this year.
