Bryant Nets Top Five at Battleground Speedway Despite Mechanical Problem

Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (June 13, 2016) – Tommy Bryant battled for a fifth-place finish last Saturday at Battleground Speedway despite an over-heating engine.

Bryant maneuvered the SawBlade.com backed Cooper Motorsports team from eighth to second place during a heat race to open the ASCS Gulf South Region event. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 5 to start the main event on the inside of the third row.

“The track was great … real racy,” he said. “I battled with Ray Allen (Kulhanek) most of the race. By the end of the race we had an over-heating issue with the engine again and I had to nurse it home in fifth.

“Hopefully we will get this figured out for (ASCS National Tour) Speedweek. I think it’s a fueling issue with the barrel valve. The weather was a little different than what we are used to and we were just off on our fuel settings. But it was a solid top-five run and keeps us in the points chase for the ASCS Gulf South Region title.”

The fifth-place result helps rank Bryant third in the championship standings – only 98 points out of the lead.

Friday’s ASCS Gulf South Region event at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, rained out.

Bryant is now set for his first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Speedweek with five straight nights of racing this week – Tuesday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas; Wednesday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.; Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.; Friday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo.; and Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo.

“This is my first Speedweek,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of the different tracks and the stiff competition.”
