Inside Line Promotions – PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. (June 8, 2016) – Harli White battled problem after problem last week during her Indiana Midget Week debut.

White had planned on doing double duty by racing both a midget and a non-wing sprint car throughout the week-long USAC event, but mechanical issues derailed the team.

The event began a week ago Tuesday (May 31) at Montpelier Motor Speedway in Montpelier, Ind., where White was unable to get a qualifying time or race the midget because of fuel problems. However, she had her only complete night of action in the non-wing sprint car that evening.

White, who had a 360ci engine in racing against drivers with 410ci engines, qualified seventh quickest in her group, which lined her up seventh in a heat race. She finished sixth before ending third in the B Main to transfer into the back of the main event.

“I just kept it on the bottom and I tried to pick off a car here or there,” she said. “I was trying to figure it out and make some good laps around the bottom. It was good, but I felt like we could have been a little better.”

White rallied from 19th to post a 12th-place finish.

Unfortunately, an ignition problem the following night at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Ind., forced the team to abandon the sprint car for the remainder of the week. The issue in the midget improved as White qualified 13th quickest. However, she and another driver collided in a heat race and the impact damaged the car too much to contest the B Main.

White returned to action last Thursday at Lincoln Park Speedway, where she timed in 19th quickest before placing eighth in both a heat race and the B Main. That missed a transfer by only two positions.

“We ended up breaking a valve spring retainer and it caused the valve to break off the next night at Bloomington Speedway (in Bloomington, Ind.),” she said. “We weren’t able to fix it so we came on home.”

White hopes the bad luck is behind her as she embarks upon the 24th annual Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek, which features six races in eight days beginning on Saturday at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas. It will be the first time she’s tackled the entire Speedweek.

“I’m very excited to run the winged sprint car six races in eight days,” she said. “I think we’re going to be great and we’ll have some good finishes.”
