The wet weather wiped out plans for River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota on Friday, so Mark Dobmeier and the Jimco Racing/Polaris #13 team settled for a date at Badlands Motor Speedway south of Brandon, South Dakota on Saturday. The result was another podium finish. This weekend, the team will try the same routine, competing at River Cities on Friday and Badlands Saturday.
Mark time in fourth quick after coming out ninth in the order on Saturday. He would line up fourth in the heat race. “We were running well in the heat, and got up to second,” he says. “Logan Forler actually won, but had the wrong left rear tire on. That DQed him, and gave us the win.”
That meant a second place standing in points and a spot in the redraw, heading to the feature. “We drew the six, which was a one spot increase from the last two weeks,” says Mark. “We are seeing some improvement there!”
All jokes aside, Mark would move forward early from his starting spot outside row three. “We had a good race,” he says. “We had a really good car. It took us a few laps to get going, but once we did, we went forward. We were able to get up to the fourth spot. About halfway or three quarters of the way through, all the leaders were in a mess of lapped cars.”
Things would slow just when they got interesting at the front of the pack. “(Dusty) Zomer was in sight, (Paul) Nienhiser and (Tim) Kaeding were battling there,” says Mark. “It was brewing up to be a really good race. Then we had a couple of yellow flags, and we were pretty good after those too.”
A red flag would slow progress though. “We didn’t seem to have the same car after that,” says Mark. “The tires cooled off a bit or something. We did get one extra spot and move up to third place, but that was pretty much all we could do after the red. You get the open air, and the lane was pretty much around the top. It’s pretty tough to make up time there.”
