Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 4, 2016) – Brian Brown came out on top of a thrilling battle with Bronson Maeschen to claim the National Sprint League victory on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
Brown, who advanced into second place on the second lap of the 25-lap main event, chased Maeschen for the first two thirds of the race before he took the lead by a nose at the finish line on Lap 18. Maeschen reclaimed the top spot with a slide job in turn three on the following lap before Brown returned the favor with a strong run off the bottom of turn two on Lap 20.
Maeschen was unable to make a bid for the lead again as Brown pulled away in the closing laps to win by nearly four seconds. The victory was his first of the season with the National Sprint League while Maeschen’s runner-up result was his career best with the series.
Craig Dollansky extended his lead in the championship standings by rounding out the podium, which was his fifth podium finish in six National Sprint League races this season. He now holds a 108-point advantage.
Brooke Tatnell captured a fourth-place finish and Ian Madsen placed fifth.
There was only one caution during the feature. Danny Lasoski, who entered the night trailing Dollansky by 21 points in the championship standings, was running fourth when he stopped in turn two on Lap 7. He restarted at the back of the field and rebounded to place ninth.
Lasoski opened the night by setting quick time during qualifying before Dominic Scelzi, who made his debut at Knoxville Raceway, claimed a heat race along with Tasker Phillips and Mike Reinke.
The National Sprint League will take next weekend off before resuming competition with a tripleheader on June 17 at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn.; June 18 at Knoxville Raceway; and June 19 at Mason City Speedway in Mason City, Iowa.
