Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (May 31, 2016) – Sprint car racing is always evolving. Some say you change or get left behind, but others go by the old saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Patrick Dills has found himself in that predicament.

Dills went into the biggest 360ci sprint car event of the season at Cottage Grove Speedway – the Marvin Smith Memorial – last weekend hoping his season would take a big upswing. Things didn’t work out and now the team is making big changes.

“We went into the year thinking we were going to try all this fancy stuff,” he said. “We are going to go back to things that made us champions. We’re going to go back to the old KPC car … back to the basics. We are going to regroup and get my confidence back up, back to what worked for us before.”

The Marvin Smith Memorial – honoring the former track champion and local favorite who passed away in 2013 – drew nearly 40 of the region’s top 360 sprint car teams to Cottage Grove Speedway this past weekend.

“I’m not a very good pill drawer,” Dills said. “I started in the back both nights in my heat and missed the transfer spot both nights by one car. Then in the B Main I missed a transfer by one spot. I just have to get my comfort level back in the car. I think when we get back to the basics I can do that. I’m still excited about what we can do with the 360.”

Dills will return to action this Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway in the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints class, in which he currently sits fifth in points.
