Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (May 31, 2016) – Trey Starks drove two different cars at two marquee races to the same result last weekend on the East Coast.

Starks recorded a 13th-place finish on Friday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., where he piloted Jeff McCall’s sprint car during the Circle K/NOS Energy Drink Outlaw Showdown, and on Sunday at Port Royal Speedway during the Bob Weikert Memorial while driving for Scott Gobrecht.

“I think the weekend was good,” Starks said. “I think we did pretty well given the circumstances. I want to thank Jeff and Scott for the opportunities. It was a fun weekend.”

Friday’s action got underway with Starks qualifying 15th quickest. He then finished fifth in a heat race to lock into the 15th starting position for the main event at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“We didn’t qualify as well as we wanted to,” he said. “We knew we had to improve a little bit and we ran ok in the heat. That put us in the main and we had an ok starting spot.

“In the main we were really good and were picking off spots early. We kept moving forward. I got up to eighth. By that time the track started to take rubber. We ran there until a restart with six laps to go. A few laps before that we ran something over on the track and it put a hole in the oil pan. We started running in our oil, which made the car act really weird and we fell back to 13th. It was leaking out and getting on the left rear tire.”

Starks was on pace for a career-best World of Outlaws result before the problem. However, the 13th-place finish was his season best with the Outlaws.

Starks then headed north to tackle the Sunday program of the Bob Weikert Memorial during his debut with Gobrecht. Starks timed in ninth quickest in his group, which missed the heat race inversion by only one position, before placing fifth in a heat race to advance into the 15th starting position for the feature.

“In the main we picked up a couple of spots on the start and then about five or 10 laps in a power steering fitting broke so we started losing power steering,” he said. “About Lap 15 we didn’t have any power steering and we lost a couple of positions. We had a restart with about four or five laps to go and we ended up picking up a few spots there to get back to 13th. I was real happy with how everything went this weekend.”

Monday’s Bob Weikert Memorial event rained out.

Starks will return to the Northwest to compete this Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., with the Summer Thunder Sprint Series.
