Inside Line Promotions – KILGORE, Texas (May 31, 2016) – Channin Tankersley extended his ASCS Gulf South Region points lead to 75 points after a podium finish on Sunday at Lone Star Speedway.
“We’ve really had a pretty good season so far speed-wise,” he said. “We’ve been really consistent lately. We’ve gone back to our basics and we’re gelling really good. We’re having a lot more fun. We are running good so that always helps.”
Tankersley opened Sunday’s event by finishing second in a heat race after he lined up on the pole.
“We really weren’t that good in the heat,” he said. “We were mediocre. I took the lead and did slide jobs with Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) for a couple of laps and then he got by us.”
The result still earned enough points for Tankersley to advance into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 6 to start the main event on the outside of the third row.
“I had a really good first half of the race,” he said. “We had really good speed and were moving forward. We got up to second and they had a caution with about 10 laps to go. After that caution there were four or five lapped cars between me and Sam. I got held up a little by some slower cars and it cost me a spot.”
Tankersley’s third-place result was his fifth top five of the season.
Last weekend’s ASCS Gulf South Region races at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, and at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, rained out.
Tankersley will take this weekend off before returning to ASCS Gulf South Region competition on June 10 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and June 11 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas.
