Bryant Charges to Top-Five Finish at Lone Star Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – KILGORE, Texas (May 31, 2016) – Tommy Bryant stormed through the field at Lone Star Speedway on Sunday to score a fifth-place finish with the ASCS Gulf South Region.

However, had it not been for an over-heating engine Bryant and his SawBlade.com backed Cooper Motorsports team might have recorded a podium result.

“I can’t seem to get going in my heat races,” he said. “We didn’t have the car right for the heat. It was free on exit (of the corners). But we got the car a lot better for the feature and that’s when it counts. If I could just start toward the front a little more the results would be a lot better.”

Bryant, who finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race, rolled off 13th in the feature and he moved forward quickly. The leaders set a torrid pace and had lapped up to seventh place midway through the feature when a caution came out.

“I was the last car on the lead lap so I restarted about last with a lot of lapped cars to deal with,” he said. “I got to the third and fourth-place cars and the motor started to overheat. I limped it home fifth, but I definitely think I was fast enough to get a top three.”

The top five ranks Bryant third in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings – only three points from second and 78 out of the lead.

Last weekend’s ASCS Gulf South Region races at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, and at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, rained out.

Bryant and the Cooper Motorsports team will take this weekend off to prepare for a pair of ASCS Gulf South Region events – June 10 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and June 11 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas – and the upcoming Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Speedweek, which features six races in eight days.

“We’re going to get the motor fixed and get prepared for a busy couple of weeks,” he said.
