Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (May 31, 2016) – Chase Johnson has a unique opportunity in front of him this week.

Johnson will pilot a midget for Matt Wood Racing throughout the USAC National Midget Series Indiana Midget Week, which brings the top midget competitors together for six races at six tracks in six days throughout Indiana.

“I’m really excited about it,” he said. “I’m positive about Tim (Clauson) and the guys giving me a great car along with Matt making sure we have everything so we can be successful. It makes me confident going into this week.”

Racing kicks off on Tuesday at Montpelier Motor Speedway in Montpelier before events on Wednesday at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City; on Thursday at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville; on Friday at Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington; on Saturday at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg; and Sunday at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo. Johnson will make his debut at each track.

“I think they’ll give me a great car so I’ll just have to work on my driving,” he said. “With six nights of racing, that’s six nights all back to back so the experience gained will be incredible.

“I don’t necessarily have a goal or expectations. I don’t know what to expect. I don’t know how long it will take me to adapt. I feel like I’ve adapted pretty quick to hopping back and forth between different types of cars and tracks.”

Johnson has competed a handful of times in a midget, including during the Chili Bowl Nationals the past three years for Matt Wood Racing.

Johnson is coming off a 13th-place result in his family owned winged sprint car last Sunday at Silver Dollar Speedway with the Civil War Sprint Car Series.

“We were really strong until the A Main,” he said. “We just had a tough time getting a handle on the car. We missed the setup quite a bit and just couldn’t really make anything happen. I started 13th and passed a couple of cars in the beginning. I actually came to a stop at one point and had to go to the tail. I dodged a couple of wrecks and passed a couple of cars and ended up finishing 13th.”

Johnson opened the night by qualifying ninth quickest in his group before he advanced from fifth to third place in a heat race. His 13th-place finish in the main event gives him nine top 15s this season.
