Inside Line Promotions – WILMOT, Wis. (May 24, 2016) – Dale Blaney pieced together a solid weekend with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, which headed as far west as the schedule presents this season.
Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored CH Motorsports team kicked off the competition last Friday at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Ill., where Blaney made his debut by qualifying sixth quickest overall.
“I thought we qualified pretty good for when we went out on Friday,” he said. “We ran fair in the heat race. We had a little problem in the dash so I had to idle around there. That kind of hurt because I think we could have gained some spots to put us in a better position for the feature.”
Blaney, who advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race, finished where he started – eighth – in the dash. That lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.
“The track rubbered down right away,” he said. “I didn’t feel like we were bad or good, but as early as Lap 5 I was on conserve-mode because everybody was going to be really close on tires. That was one of those nights where we took what we could get and moved on.”
Blaney ended with a sixth-place result to maintain the All Star points lead entering Saturday’s event at Wilmot Raceway, where it was a show-up points event for the All Stars.
“Wilmot is a great place for us,” he said. “We had won four in a row there. Going out late and having quick time was pretty impressive. I didn’t have to run that hard in the heat because all I had to do was run in the top five.”
Blaney set quick time during qualifying before he maneuvered from sixth to third place in a heat race. He then picked up a spot in the dash to finish fourth, which lined him up on the outside of the second row for the main event.
“I was ok in the feature,” he said. “I just wasn’t real good. From the center off in the corners I struggled and couldn’t get a run. We needed to get into heavy traffic and I could have maybe maneuvered around, but we never got into heavy traffic. It was a fun race. I wish I could have done a little more. I got to second with about 15 laps to go. I ran second for six or seven laps. We had a restart, but the bottom lane was the best lane and (Danny) Holtgraver was covering that lane up. I had to run around the top to make something happen and it opened the door for Sheldon (Haudenschild) to slide in front of us.”
Blaney scored a third-place finish, which marked his 10th podium of the season.
The Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed team is scheduled to compete this Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, and Saturday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, with the All Stars.
