Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 21, 2016) – Danny Lasoski swept the National Sprint League’s season debut at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday.
Lasoski, who is the defending National Sprint League and Knoxville Raceway champion, put his knowledge and experience at the half-mile oval to use as he set quick time during qualifying, charged from sixth to win a heat race and maneuvered from eighth to capture the 25-lap main event.
The win was Lasoski’s 109th career trip to Victory Lane at Knoxville Raceway – his third this season – and his 10th career triumph with the National Sprint League. It also propelled him into the lead in the National Sprint League championship standings.
“It was shaking so bad I couldn’t see where I was going,” he said. “I guess we packed a tire with mud.”
That didn’t hurt Lasoski, who held off Brian Brown following a late-race restart with only three laps remaining to pick up the win by 0.501 seconds.
The main event began with Craig Dollansky, who entered the night leading the National Sprint League championship standings, powering from fourth into the lead on the opening lap. Dollansky led the first six laps before polesitter Brooke Tatnell reeled him in and took over the top spot on Lap 7.
Meanwhile, Lasoski advanced into fourth place on Lap 9, third place on Lap 10 and second place on Lap 11. He began using the middle of the track in turns one and two to erase Tatnell’s advantage before capitalizing on a slide job in turn three on Lap 19 to gain the lead.
Brown drove into second place on Lap 21 and closed within four tenths of a second of Lasoski in thick traffic with four laps remaining before the late caution provided a clear track for the leader. The duo raced nose to tail throughout the final three laps, but Brown was unable to pull even with Lasoski.
“I kept getting held up and choosing the wrong lines (in traffic),” Lasoski said. “Once we got free I didn’t see him anymore.”
Tatnell placed third with Dollansky fourth and Ian Madsen rounding out the top five.
In addition to Lasoski, Madsen and Dustin Selvage each won a heat race.
The National Sprint League returns to action next weekend with a doubleheader beginning on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway followed by a Sunday event at Iowa State Fair Speedway in Des Moines, Iowa.
