One of the satisfying challenges of oval dirt track racing, especially that of a traveling series, is trying to find the exact right setup for each track and for the particular track throughout the evening. Bookout's finish in his heat race put him towards the back of the "A" Feature lineup. Starting 18th out of 24, Bookout began his move towards the front. As the race went on, the track took more and more rubber. With air pressure dropping and rubber being ripped from the tire, Bookout was still able to pass six cars and finish 12th.
