Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (May 17, 2016) – Channin Tankersley garnered a pair of top-15 finishes during the Texas World Dirt Track Championships last weekend.
The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track began with Tankersley advancing from sixth to fourth place in a heat race before he won a qualifier from the pole position. That ranked him eighth in overall points to start the 20-lap main event on the outside of the fourth row.
“At the start of the feature we were good,” he said. “I think we were running eighth on that last restart. They had a caution with about four laps to go. I guess the right rear tire started to go down. We got super tight and fell back a few spots.”
Tankersley ended with an 11th-place finish.
He returned to the track on Saturday for the finale, which opened with a fourth-place result in a heat race before a fifth-place finish in a qualifier. That relegated Tankersley to a B Main, where a second-place result earned a transfer into the 19th starting position for the feature.
“It was so hard to pass,” he said. “The track rubbered down in the heat races. They went out and tilled the track after the qualifiers. It brought the track back halfway decent for the B Main and then it went back to how it was.
“All the positions I made up (in the feature) were in the first five to eight laps. I got a really good start going into the first corner and I got four or five guys, but I got real tight and lost everything I gained.”
Tankersley finished with a 15th-place result.
He will be off this weekend before resuming competition May 27 at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas; May 28 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas; and May 29 at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region. Tankersley enters the tripleheader leading the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings.
