Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 17, 2016) – When the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series invades Central Pennsylvania EVERYONE, from fans to race teams to the tough Pennsylvania Posse drivers, well, to say the intensity picks up is a vast understatement.
Ryan Smith is ready to defend his home “turf” against the invading Outlaws this week. He is slated to compete on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., for the Gettysburg Clash and Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the Morgan Cup.
“Yeah, you could say the atmosphere changes,” he said. “We all get a little bit on edge, the adrenaline starts to flow ... you know the best of the best is coming.”
The “Kunkletown Kid” has had success against the World of Outlaws, recording his first career series win in October 2014 at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa.
“The good part is growing up racing in Central Pennsylvania gets you used to the intensity that the Outlaws bring,” he said. “You have to be aggressive every time you hit the track.”
Last year Smith experienced mixed results against the World of Outlaws in his home state. He scored a third-place result in May at Lincoln Speedway, but ended 23rd in May and 19th in October at Williams Grove Speedway.
“With the new Outlaws format qualifying is as important as ever so we really need to lay down a good lap each night to start strong,” he said.
Smith tuned up for the Outlaws invasion last Friday at Williams Grove Speedway, where he picked up a 13th-place result.
