Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (May 16, 2016) – Ray Allen Kulhanek had a top-10 car throughout the Texas World Dirt Track Championships last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

“We were fast all weekend,” he said. “We laid down pretty good laps every time we went out.”

Kulhanek kicked off the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader on Friday by winning a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. He then finished fifth in a qualifier. Kulhanek’s combined points locked him into the 11th starting position for the 20-lap main event.

“I was running around 10th when I had a water line come out of the crimp so we lost water going down the front straightaway,” he said. “I immediately killed it and coasted around so we had a DNF.”

Kulhanek’s bid for his third top 10 of the season with the ASCS National Tour came up shy as he was credited with a 20th-place result.

The weekend concluded on Saturday, when Kulhanek placed third in both a heat race and a qualifier. That lined him up on the pole of a B Main, which he won to transfer into the 17th starting position for the 30-lap feature.

“We had a decent car, but it’s tough coming from so far back,” he said. “I closed in on 10th place and I could have bumped the guy enough to move him coming to the checkers, but it isn’t worth it so we rolled across the line 11th.

“I should have had two top 10s out of the weekend. I was more disappointed with the track conditions and how many tires we burned up. It was a costly weekend.”

Kulhanek was tied for the most cars passed in Saturday’s main event.

He will take this weekend off before returning to action May 27 at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas; May 28 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas; and May 29 at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region. He enters the tripleheader second in the championship standings.
