It was a short night at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Indiana with the World of Outlaws for Scotty and the STM #64 team as they blew a steering gear in the heat race event and would not be able to rejoin the rest of the night as the program was rushed through to get the show in before the rain storm came. That led the team to prepare for a cold Saturday night at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI with the IRA Sprint Car Series. After a solid performance all night long, Scotty managed to capture his first podium of the season with a 3rd place performance in the main event!
Friday morning the team headed south to Plymouth, Indiana to race at Plymouth Speedway with the World of Outlaws. Scotty did not have a great qualifying run after hitting a big rut in the track both laps and would end up starting 9th in the heat race event. He charged the bottom groove on the first lap of the heat and pulled into the fifth position before the car darted up the track in turn three. Scotty regrouped himself and settled back in the eighth position for the next few laps before he would pull into the infield after the steering got very tight and was covered in power steering fluid. The team rushed to get a new steering gear into the car and were putting the final touches on the car as the race program began to get rushed to get going as a threat of rain factored in. The B-main was getting pushed off on the track and Scotty was unable to get on to the track and the team would pack up for the night.
They headed back home in the morning as the weather played a big factor in deciding where to go Saturday if the IRA event would get cancelled. Beaver Dam Raceway pulled through however and was able to get the track into a racing condition. The team pulled into the track and began to prepare the car for the evening. Scotty would go out second in time trials and would end up second quick out of 26 cars in attendance. He would go on to start sixth in the heat race event. During the heat race event, Scotty was working the high groove and running in the fourth position for majority of the race but fell back to the fifth position after losing momentum during a slide job attempt on the slick track conditions. He would end up finishing fifth but was still eligible for the redraw because of the qualifying time. Scotty would end up starting third in the 30 lap A-main event. The temps began to lower as the field pushed off on the track for the final event. The took the green flag and Thiel stormed into the second position coming out of turn two. He would hold that position for several laps and a caution would come out and bunch the field back up. On the restart, Scotty bobbled a little and lost a couple car lengths on the leader but would gain ground several laps later as lap traffic approached. Just before the half way marker was waved, Scotty caught up the leader and began to pressure the top spot. He would have to change his line to work past a few lap cars and lost a little ground during the process. After regrouping he made another attempt at the lead and would show a nose wing going down the front stretch! He would again have to change up his line and lost some ground. Lap traffic began to get thicker in front of the leaders but Scotty still managed his position. He fell back to the third spot as another caution came out. After returning back to green flag action, Thiel made the pass back for position down the backstretch and settled back into the second positon. After battling for the second position for the next few laps, white flag was waved to the field. Scotty protected the low groove but would bobble a little bit out of turn two and gave up some ground going down the backstretch. The battle carried on into turn three and Thiel would fall short at the line and end up finishing in the third position. It was still a great performance as it recorded Thiel’s first podium finish for the season. “First off I have to thank all you fans for coming out and freezing your butts off. We were getting a little cold sitting in the race car but you guys are diehards,” exclaimed Thiel. “A podium finish finally this year feels pretty good. This Professional Plating, Scott Thiel Builders team has been working really hard and we’ve been fighting a lot of bad luck but things are coming around. We had a shot at the lead for a little bit. The leader got around the lapped cars quicker and walked away from us. We needed this finish as a team to build a little confidence after a rough start of the season. We will build on this and work hard for next week.” Concluded Thiel.
Next on tap for the #64 Scott Thiel Motorsports team will be another double header weekend starting off Saturday night at Wilmot Raceway as the IRA Sprint Series co-sanctions this event with the new Allstar Sprint Car Series. The team will follow up this event on Sunday at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
