Thomas Meseraull leads the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars to a pair of Indiana races this weekend. Friday night’s race is the “May Meltdown” at Gas City (I-69) Speedway while Saturday night, the series heads to Brownstown Speedway.
Meseraull has five “podium” finishes so far this season, including a pair of recent third-places at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. He also won at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla. in February. He takes a slim five-point lead over Brady Bacon into this weekend’s events, while third-ranking Chase Stockon sits just 21 points behind the leader.
Casey Riggs won the most recent series race at Brownstown in 2011. Gas City, on the other hand, has hosted 27 previous USAC Sprint races since 2002.
Meseraull will have his work cut out for him at Gas City, since his two closest point pursuers, Bacon and Stockon, took feature wins there in 2015.
Bryan Clauson is the only driver this season to repeat as a feature winner in the nine races contested so far. He has three victories, while the other winners have included Meseraull, defending series champion Robert Ballou, Dave Darland, Stockon, Bacon and Chad Boespflug.
