Joe B. Miller Wires Feature at Southern Illinois Raceway

Marion, IL – Joe B. Miller of Millersville, Missouri wired the feature at Southern Illinois Raceway from the pole to claim his 20th career POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series feature event. At the drop of the green flag, Miller took off from outside front row starter Danny Clark, setting a blistering pace. Three laps in the caution flew for a cluster of cars off turn two. Luke Kilgore, BJ Gatewood, Tyler Rust, and Brian Jones were involved.

Coming back to green, Miller again took off and rapidly put space between himself and the rest of the field. As Miller quickly caught the back of the field and began placing cars a lap down, the caution flew at the halfway mark after second place starter Danny Clark looped it off turn two. Returning to racing, Miller had a solid cushion of six lap cars between himself and Nathan Benson who had worked up to the second position after starting twelfth. Three laps later another caution would fly as Luke Verardi spun off turn four, the result of a flat right front tire.

Just a tad bit over the halfway mark with 18 laps down, Miller again set a blazing pace as Benson had only worked past three lap cars by the time of the caution. By the time Benson cleared the remaining three lap cars, Miller was too far ahead and Benson was running out of time. With seven laps remaining, the caution Benson needed appeared in the form of Brian Jones coming to a halt entering turn three after the rear wing tree broke going down the back stretch.

Sitting in prime position, Benson now had an opportunity to fight for the lead, but Miller would have none of it, as the 51B machine continued to put car lengths between himself and the rest of the field for the final seven laps. Slater Helt ended up third, while Levi Curry took fourth and Shelby Bosie rounded out the top five.

“We came tonight because we wanted to get a little test session in before the Hustle,” said Joe B. Miller. “I knew it was all going to be about starting up front for the feature. The track didn’t widen out a whole lot, but it’s probably the fastest this year than it’s ever been. Just put it on the mat for 30 laps and hope you can keep it straight. I’ve got to thank everyone that helps.”

“Congrats to Joe B,” Nathan Benson stated. “We started twelfth and run second, so I’m happy with that. We’re out here racing to win. We’ve got two wins, two seconds, and a fourth all year, so far. I can’t say enough about our BOSS Chassis and all the guys that help us. FTZ has a little bit more up their sleeve for the Hustle and SPEED Week. A little bit of dyno time here in the next few weeks and we’ll have our guns loaded when the money’s on the line here in the next few weeks.”

“Good job to Joe B., he was flying,” said Slater Helt. “And good job to Nathan on the second place. We’ll go from here.”
