Josh Scheiderman and the Deuce Motorsports #49 team competed twice last week. Last Wednesday, a mechanical issue forced the West Burlington, Iowa driver to start in the back of a Sprint Invaders feature field and charge forward thirteen positions at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. On Saturday, in 410 action at the Knoxville Raceway, Josh surged from 21st into the top fifteen. He plans on competing again at Knoxville this Saturday, before preparing for another Sprint Invaders show at the Iowa State Fair Speedway Wednesday, May 18.
Josh was unable to make the call to start his heat at Oskaloosa. “Somehow, when we set up the motor before the season, the timing must have slipped,” he says. “It didn’t run that well at Burlington, and it was extremely flat in hot laps at Oskaloosa. We got it fixed for the heat race, but unfortunately, the motor was so fat that it fouled up the spark plugs. We missed the heat, but we changed the spark plugs and that ultimately fixed the problem for the feature.”
Starting 21st, he would climb into the top ten and finish eighth. “We came up through there,” says Josh. “The track was kind of one-lane, which made it tough for passing. There’s a lot of good cars with the Sprint Invaders anymore. It made for a long, tough evening, but we got things figured out anyway.”
Josh timed in 21st quick at Knoxville on Saturday and points the finger at himself. “We were awful fast in hot laps (seventh overall), but hot laps don’t pay anything. It was a good starting point for the evening. We were confident going out late qualifying, but honestly, I just stepped on it. I just missed my marks and ultimately, it led to being 21st quick. It’s unfortunate, because I know we’re better than that. With the caliber of competition we’re up against every week, you can’t afford any slips ups.”
After running his heat, he would again start in row eleven. He would surge to 15th at the checkers on a fast racetrack. “We were able to move forward against some good cars,” says Josh. “Ultimately, the car was very good and we were happy with that, but you can’t start 21st at Knoxville and expect to run up to the front.”
Josh is concentrating on his qualifying at Knoxville. “It’s something we’re clearly working on, and something that I’m working on as a driver,” he says. “I feel we have the speed back in the car, which is crucial. The driver has to be on the same page now, and maybe we can do that on Saturday.”
