Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 10, 2016) – Qualifying was a hurdle for Caleb Helms last weekend during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader at Eldora Speedway.

Helms timed in 21st quickest in his group on Friday and 16th quickest in his group on Saturday, which put him behind the eight ball for the remainder of each program at the half-mile oval.

“Qualifying wasn’t my strength last weekend,” he said. “On the first night we had some things on the car that weren’t quite right and on the second go around I wasn’t very comfortable. The track had changed a bit and I didn’t execute very well. We were behind the eight ball both nights.”

Helms advanced from 11th to eighth in a heat race on Friday, but his qualifying time relegated him toward the back of the C Main. He rallied from eighth to fourth place and ended two spots out of a transfer.

“On Friday we went from the back of a heat race and got up to seventh, but let one car get by us,” he said. “We were rolling really good, but just didn’t have enough laps. Our times in the C Main were as good as the fourth-place car in the B Main. We were just too far behind.”

Helms placed eighth in a heat race on Saturday before maneuvering from 12th to eighth in the Last Chance Showdown, which was four positions away from transferring into the main event.

“We needed to do a better job during qualifying to set ourselves up better,” he said. “It’s pretty hard to make the A Main when you don’t time in well.”

Helms will return to Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions competition this Friday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., and Saturday at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pa. He enters the weekend ranked 10th in the championship standings.
