Inside Line Promotions – CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (May 10, 2016) – Joe Trenca ran into a pair of problems last Saturday at Canandaigua Motorsports Park during a Patriot Sprint Tour event.

The Mucci Motorsports driver opened the night by quickly moving forward from his fourth starting position in a heat race before the first strike of bad luck.

“We were passing for second on Lap 2 and we had a big piece of mud break the hood,” he said. “It stuck the throttle wide open and broke the shifter cable. They pushed me into the work area quickly and we were able to fix the cable. We were getting ready to push back off, but officials said they completed a lap and wouldn’t let me back out.”

The DNF in the heat race forced Trenca to start at the back of the B Main.

“By Lap 2 we were leading,” he said. “Going into turn one everyone went to the middle and I blasted around the top. I got a few more in turns three and four. On the next lap I got the lead in turns one and two.”

The B Main win transferred Trenca into the 25-lap main event, which he started 22nd.

“I was running on the extreme top bouncing off the wall,” he said. “It worked for a while. We were up to seventh and had a restart on Lap 16. Unfortunately, we had a tire seal over on us. The car wasn’t as good after that as it was in the beginning.”

Trenca fought the ill-handling car during the closing laps as he finished 13th, which was enough to earn the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars as well as the Salvage of the Night Award.

“We were going there to win, but you have to play with the hand you’re dealt,” he said. “We turned it into a decent run.”

Friday’s race at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., rained out.

Trenca will return to action May 21 at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., with the Empire Super Sprints and May 22 at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y., with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
