Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 10, 2016) – Dale Blaney’s first trip of the season to the Midwest yielded a pair of top-10 finishes.

Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored CH Motorsports team kicked off the weekend on Friday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., for the $10,000-to-win Dirt Classic I-80 with the National Sprint League.

“It was really tough to drive by Eldora (Speedway) to go there, but we need to make laps at Knoxville and to go out and support the NSL and Tod (Quiring) was important. I just wish we could have run a little better at both places.”

Blaney qualified seventh quickest at I-80 Speedway before he placed third in both heat races. That ranked him sixth in overall points and lined him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“I felt like 10 or 12 laps in when I got to second I could run second,” he said. “Terry McCarl was in a league of his own. We had a harder left rear tire on. I was just getting going and those last 13 laps I just spun the tires from the time they dropped the green to the end of it. Sometimes you don’t know with a hard tire what it’s going to do. We had two yellows in a row and then a red. It cooled the tires down enough where it stopped working all together.”

Blaney, who was up to second midway through the race, held on for a fifth-place finish.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed team timed in fifth quickest during qualifying and placed sixth in a heat race. That lined Blaney up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

“We didn’t know what to do with it for the feature because the track was still narrow,” he said. “It got widened out a bit. The first eight laps I felt like I was ok. I was running around fifth. I wasn’t gaining anything, but was maintaining. The last 12 laps or so I was really tight and couldn’t rotate the corners at all.

“We have to do something different car-wise or setup-wise. We don’t run anything like Knoxville all year long. It’s a track I’m just not that comfortable at or good at. I don’t have a lot of confidence going into that place.”

Blaney ended with an eighth-place finish, which marked his 18th top 10 during 20 races this season.

He will return to Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions action this Friday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., and Saturday at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pa. Blaney enters the weekend as the points leader.
