Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (May 10, 2016) – Josh Baughman improved his results throughout a tripleheader last weekend.

The competition began last Thursday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., during the McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. Baughman advanced from seventh to fourth place during a heat race, which locked him into the 13th starting position for the main event.

“We were terrible in the feature,” he said. “We lost a plug in our valve cover and blew oil everywhere so I pulled off in the main. That’s how that night ended.”

Baughman was credited with a 22nd-place result.

The finishes dramatically got better starting the ensuing night at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., during the Dirt Classic I-80 with the National Sprint League.

“We fought brake issues,” he said. “I didn’t have them in the two heat races. We finally got them for the A Main after three complete sets of brakes.”

Baughman qualified 13th quickest before placing seventh and fifth, respectively, during heat races. That lined him up on the inside of the 10th row for the main event.

“We were good in the feature,” he said. “We always run good at I-80. I was really comfortable in the car. If we wouldn’t have got behind with the brakes early we would have had a top-five car.”

Baughman powered from 19th to a 10th-place result, which earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway with the ASCS Red River Region and ASCS Warrior Region. Baughman maneuvered from fourth to second place during a heat race, which earned him a spot in the feature redraw. He then pulled the No. 6 during the random redraw to start the main event on the outside of the third row.

“I fell back the first lap to eighth or ninth,” he said. “We passed our way back up to third. I felt like we had a car to win. Then I lost two cylinders with seven laps to go so we were hanging on from there.”

Baughman scored a third-place finish to garner his fourth top five of the season.

He will return to ASCS National Tour competition this Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Texas World Dirt Track Championships.
