Inside Line Promotions – BEAUMONT, Texas (May 10, 2016) – After having the past few weeks off, Tommy Bryant and the Cooper Motorsports team were excited to get back to racing last weekend at a pair of ASCS Gulf South Region events in Texas.

The weekend started great for Bryant and the SawBlade.com backed team, which registered a fourth-place finish on Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco. Unfortunately, a mechanical issue sidelined the team early during Saturday’s feature at Golden Triangle Raceway Park.

“We had a pretty good night Friday, but Saturday we pushed off for the feature and the car fired and then died,” he said. “The roll pin in the mag sheared off. I guess if you are going to have a break in the motor that would be the best thing. It was just great to get back to racing.”

Friday’s 12th annual Gordon Woolley Classic began with Bryant advancing from third to second place in a heat race. That put him ninth in overall points, which was only one spot out of making the feature redraw.

“We started ninth in the feature and got up to second and then fell back to fourth and that’s where we finished,” he said. “The track rutted up a little, but it was a good night for our SawBlade.com car. It was good to give Central Tube and Bar a nice showing for their first night on the car.”

The fourth-place finish marked Bryant’s fifth top five of the season.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Golden Triangle Raceway, where Bryant drove from fourth to win a heat race. He then pulled the highest number – eight – during the feature redraw to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

“We won our heat and were scheduled to start eighth in the feature,” he said. “We pushed the car out, it fired and died. It was disappointing to say the least. I have to thank my crew guy, Austin, for all his hard work and our crew chief, Brian at Momentum Suspensions, for all he does for this team.”

Bryant was scored with a 19th-place finish.

He will compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour this Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Texas World Dirt Track Championships.

“I’m really excited for this weekend,” he said. “The competition will be pretty stout, but I think our team is up to the challenge. It would be great to get one of those cowboy hats!”
