Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 9, 2016) – Trey Starks capped last weekend’s World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader at Eldora Speedway by making his first dash with the series this season.

“We didn’t quite get the finishes we were looking for, but I would call it a solid weekend,” he said. “We were pretty good at the beginning of each night, especially Saturday night. We just didn’t execute in the main events. For as many cars as were there and as long as it’s been and the little experience I have at Eldora, we definitely learned a lot. Plus, we made the main both nights out of 40-something car fields.”

The weekend began on Friday with Starks, who was driving for Jeff McCall, qualifying 11th quickest in his group. He then finished where he started – sixth – in a heat race to miss locking into the feature by only one position.

“On the opening lap we were in a transfer spot and we ended up racing with a car too much and lost our momentum, which let a car behind us capitalize on that,” he said. “That goes with a lack of experience at Eldora and knowing when to pull in line. We had a really good B Main run. We got the lead on the start and tried to set a good pace.”

Starks won the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the main event.

“The car and driver combination just didn’t work in the feature,” he said. “It just wasn’t a good run for us. I couldn’t really find grip anywhere. I couldn’t get the car moving forward off the corners.”

Starks ended with a 24th-place result.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at the half-mile oval, where Starks timed in eighth quickest during his qualifying group. He then charged from fourth to second place to lock himself into the dash.

“We had a little better qualifying effort,” he said. “I think we were about one tenth off from Daryn Pittman, who set quick time. We knew we weren’t very far off. In the heat when everybody went to the middle on the start I just focused on staying up top and keeping my speed up. We went around two cars in the first turn to get to second. We were rolling pretty good at that point.”

Starks placed eighth in the dash to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“We just couldn’t find grip or get the car to move forward off the corners again in the feature,” he said. “The first couple of laps we felt good and were racing hard for position around eighth or ninth. As the race went on we fell back. We slowly faded.”

Starks posted a 19th-place finish.

He will return to his family sprint car this Saturday for a race at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., where Starks scored a fourth-place result on April 30.
