Inside Line Promotions – FINDLAY, Ohio (May 3, 2016) – Caleb Helms will make his World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season debut this weekend at Eldora Speedway.
Helms is set to compete on Friday and Saturday at the famed half-mile oval near Rossburg, Ohio, where he’s seeking his first victory.
“Eldora would be one of the coolest tracks to win a race at,” he said. “There’s a ton of history and prestige there. The best drivers go to Eldora to race so that’d be special to reach Victory Lane there. It’s one of my favorite tracks and with it being so close to home that makes it even more special.”
Helms has been unable to crack the top 10 at the track the past couple of seasons after a career-best year at Eldora Speedway in 2011, when Helms earned four top 10s – including a runner-up result – during 360ci competition.
The following year Helms was on pace for his first-ever win at the high-banked oval when a mechanical failure on the last lap ended his night early.
“We were pretty consistent there before we bumped up to 410s and we haven’t been able to put together the solid nights at Eldora since,” he said. “It really takes a strong performance in qualifying to set yourself up, but that doesn’t mean the work is done at that point. You don’t luck into winning at Eldora. You have to have one of the best cars on the track every time you hit the track.”
Helms said his team has made a lot of progress this year racing on slicker tracks, which could pay dividends this weekend.
“Something we’ve really focused on since last year was getting a better handle on the race car on a slick track and I’m happy with the direction we’re heading,” he said. “It’s still a work in progress, but we are making strides and hopefully that shows this weekend.”
