Inside Line Promotions – MARYVILLE, Tenn. (April 28, 2016) – Derek Hagar garnered a pair of podium finishes last weekend during a USCS Series doubleheader, including a trip to Victory Lane for the third time this season.

Hagar kicked off the two-day event in Tennessee on Friday when he made his debut at I-75 Raceway in Niota.

“We had a little rain delay early in the night, but luckily the promoter stuck it out and we got the night in,” he said.

Hagar won his heat race from the pole, which lined him up on the outside of the second row for the main event.

“It is a sweeping race track,” he said. “Where you started was pretty much where you’d finish. There wasn’t a good way to get around someone unless you were in traffic. About every time we got to traffic a caution would come out. We ended up with a third-place finish, which was a good result.”

Hagar took the momentum from the podium finish into Saturday’s event at Smoky Mountain Speedway, where he won during his most recent event in May 2012.

Hagar advanced from third to second place in the dash and he won his heat race from the pole position. That lined him up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“We took the lead on the first lap and led every lap of that race,” he said. “We had a good car. We started on the front row with a rookie driver and we had a real good start with him. I got the advantage into turn one. It was big momentum race track so I focused on keeping my momentum up. The track started to take some rubber and it was hard to lap cars. I got a challenge by Anthony Nicholson around Lap 20. He gave me a handful because I couldn’t get passed the lapped cars. Luckily we had a caution so it gave me clean air for the last 10 laps or so.”

Hagar’s win gives him nine top-five finishes in 11 sprint car races this year.
