Chase Stockon remains atop the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car standings as the series gears up for back-to-back races Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7 at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio for the newly-christened “#LetsRaceTwo” event, which opens on Friday with the annual “Don Branson/Jud Larson Classic” and includes the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars.
Stockon finished fifth in last Saturday’s 30-lap feature in the series’ debut at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway. He enters the Eldora “double” with a 25-point lead over Kyle Cummins, who was second at Montpelier.
Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, Okla. registered a record 94th USAC National Sprint Car victory Saturday for the Dynamics, Inc. team owned by the Hoffman family of Milford, Ohio with his victory Saturday. Bacon became the team’s all-time winningest driver in USAC National Sprint Car “points-paying” races, picking up his 14th feature win in the famed Hoffman 69. He caught Dave Darland on lap 12 and led the remaining 19 laps in the Mean Green/Lykins Oil Triple X/Williams Mopar to earn the victory. Cummins took the runner-up spot ahead of Darland, Shane Cottle and Stockon.
Heats went to A.J. Hopkins (Simpson Race Products), Robert Ballou (Competition Suspension) and C.J. Leary (Benic Enterprises). Jerry Coons, Jr. won the Indy Race Parts Semi. Leary came from the 15th position to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award after taking sixth in the feature.
Robert Ballou and Justin Grant captured last year’s back-to-back May Eldora races while Thomas Meseraull grabbed last September’s “4-Crown Nationals” feature on the Eldora high banks. Meseraull ranks fourth in series points, just four behind Bacon, who sits third.
