Inside Line Promotions – PLACERVILLE, Calif. (April 25, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi overcame a slow start to the night to score a top-five finish in impressive fashion last Saturday at Placerville Speedway with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.

“The track was different than I’d ever seen it before,” he said. “In qualifying it got extremely rough in turns three and four. The first lap I bobbled in it and it killed my time. The second lap I tried to push it harder and it really upset the car. We didn’t get a good qualifying time.”

Scelzi timed in 20th quickest. However, he powered from seventh to fifth place in a heat race to claim the final lock-in position into the main event.

“The track was still really rough and hooked up in the heat,” he said. “There wasn’t much passing. I got the two positions on the start.”

That lined Scelzi up on the outside of the eighth row for the main event at the quarter-mile oval.

“There were some early yellows that gave me positions,” he said. “We had got to 12th and hadn’t passed anyone yet. We finally got a green flag run in and I was able to make a lot of ground up on the top in turns one and two. The track was extremely racy in the main. You could make the bottom or the top work in turns one and two and the top, middle and bottom work in turns three and four. I was pretty much everywhere and anywhere. We were able to get guys on restarts and longer runs as well. We salvaged a top-five finish after starting the night slow.”

Scelzi charged from 16th to capture the fifth-place result.

He will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., where Saturday’s event is the 26th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial with the King of the West.

“I’m really excited,” he said. “I feel like I’ve been fast the last handful of times I’ve been there. I’m really looking forward to going to Chico. I think it should be a good show and a good outing for us.”

Scelzi earned his career-best World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series result at the quarter-mile track earlier this month when he placed fourth. He also scored three top-five finishes and five top 10s last season at Silver Dollar Speedway.
