Inside Line Promotions – PLACERVILLE, Calif. (April 25, 2016) – Chase Johnson captured his career-best King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series result last Saturday at Placerville Speedway, where he earned a fourth-place finish.
“I think we were capable of third if not second place,” he said. “The car was great. I felt like I did my job and it was a great night overall for us.”
The event began with Johnson qualifying sixth quickest in the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned sprint car.
“If we qualify good the rest of the night is smooth sailing,” he said. “That’s exactly how Saturday went. We were able to make some great laps in qualifying and put ourselves into the six spot. We ran the heat race knowing we just had to transfer.”
Johnson then finished where he started – third – in a heat race to lock himself into the dash. Unfortunately, he pulled the second-highest number – seven – during the random redraw to line up on the inside of the fourth row.
“In the dash draw the pill draw wasn’t so great, but we got some extra laps on the track and figured out where the track was headed,” he said after placing seventh in the dash. “We spent the whole night up top. I really thought it was better than running the lower line. Before the feature I was driving around the track and it looked like the bottom had quite a bit of moisture in it. I decided to run it at the beginning of the race and it was actually really, really fast.”
Johnson maneuvered from seventh into third place in the first half of the feature by running the bottom groove.
“I spent a lot of the race in third,” he said. “With about five laps to go Jonathan Allard got by me so we finished fourth.”
The fourth-place result gives the team momentum entering the next King of the West event this Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., for the 26th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial.
“We’re looking forward to heading to Chico,” he said. “We’ve had some good runs there. With the momentum we have and how great the car has been lately I feel like we have a really good chance to get another great result.”
