Inside Line Promotions – BYRAM, Miss. (April 12, 2015) – Channin Tankersley knocked on the door for his first victory of the season last weekend at Jackson Motor Speedway.

Tankersley was in contention for the win both nights during the ASCS Gulf South Region and ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints Region doubleheader, which began on Friday with Tankersley winning a heat race after starting fourth.

“We started off pretty good,” he said. “We were fast and had a good heat race on Friday. We got to the lead and the car was really good. We were in cruise-mode. That put us in the redraw and low and behold I drew an eight. That set us behind the eight ball because there were some fast guys in front of us.”

Tankersley’s high draw lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“We got going and everybody else was rolling around the top,” he said. “I started rolling around the tires and picking them off relatively fast. By halfway I had made it to second. Then I had to move back to the top because the bottom blew off. I caught (Aaron) Reutzel in traffic with two laps to go. I got around him for the lead, but a caution came out before we made a complete lap and that ended my opportunity to win.”

Tankersley placed a season-best second, which locked him into Saturday’s feature redraw. He pulled the No. 4 during the random draw to line up on the outside of the second row for the finale.

“We didn’t have to run the heat so we went out for our hot-lap session and the car felt ok,” he said. “That track is real sandy and the dirt is almost soot. They kick that up and it’s hard to get bite. We were a little too free in the hot laps so we went back to the pits and made some changes.

“I got a good start and the racing line was around the bottom in the feature. I got to the lead coming out of turn four on the first lap. I led five or six laps and then I got passed. I ran second for probably 15 more laps.”

Tankersley was running third with eight laps remaining when he banged against the wall in turn one and cut a tire down. After getting the tire replaced he restarted at the back and ended 14th.

“The weekend was pretty good,” he said. “If we wouldn’t have had that flat we would have been leading the (ASCS Gulf South Region) points, but shoulda, coulda, woulda. We had really good speed and put ourselves in a good position both nights.”

Tankersley ranks fourth in the ASCS Gulf South championship standings – only 10 points out of the lead. He is scheduled to return to competition May 6 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
