Tankersley Charges to Podium Finish during ASCS National Debut at Bronco

Inside Line Promotions – CLEVELAND, Texas (March 29, 2015) – Channin Tankersley capped last weekend with his first podium finish of the season.

Tankersley powered to a third-place result during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour debut at Bronco Raceway Park on Saturday.

“I’ll take a third any day of the week, especially after the start of the year I had,” he said.

Last weekend opened on Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, with Tankersley maneuvering from sixth to fifth place in a heat race and from fourth to third place in the B Main.

“The track wasn’t really racy,” he said. “It was follow the leader. We started in the back of a fast heat and had to go to the B Main. We transferred out of the B Main and started in the 10th row of the A Main. I had a great start. I think I got about six cars on the first lap. Then we were just struggling so I pulled off because I didn’t want to risk tearing anything up.”

Tankersley exited the track before the midpoint of the main event and he was credited with a 24th-place finish.

The results turned around on Saturday at Bronco Raceway Park, where Tankersley advanced from third to second place in a heat race. That missed a spot in the feature redraw by only one position and lined Tankersley up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

“We’re still trying to figure this car out,” he said. “In the heat race we still weren’t great. We were close, but just lacking that little bit. We tried some new things and decided to go back to the basics and the car really came to life. We picked them off here and there. As the track started getting slicker we started getting better. We got up to third toward the end of the race. Lapped traffic didn’t help us out too much. We got close to second and just ran out of laps.”

Tankersley’s third-place result propelled him to fourth place in the ASCS Gulf South Region, which co-sanctioned last weekend’s doubleheader, championship standings. He is only 11 points out of the lead entering this Saturday’s event at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas.
