(Bill W) March 3, 2010 – It’s time to get the season underway for Brian Brown and the Brian Brown Racing FVP #21 team! They will head for Texas this weekend for a pair of shows with the ASCS-Gulf South region. The next three weekends will feature races in the “Lone Star State” and the Grain Valley, Missouri driver will be in attendance for all of them.
Both events this weekend will pay $3,000 to the winner. Friday’s event will be at Golden Triangle Raceway Park near Beaumont, and Saturday they will move to Battleground Speedway near Highlands. “I really don’t know much about either,” says Brian of the venues. “Beaumont is a small quarter mile, and I was at Highlands with Danny (Lasoski) in the late ‘90’s with the Beefpacker team. I think it’s a big 3/8. It will be exciting to get down there. The Gulf South is having some big paying races and we want to see if our hard work in the offseason has paid off.”
The team is as strong as ever heading into 2010. “Grandpa (George Lasoski) leads the charge at the shop, of course,” says Brian. “My crew chief, Chad Morgan, is back for a third year. Kelby Hopkins has joined the team, as well, so we’ve got some great help. They’ve been working hard to be more prepared than we’ve ever been. Of course, Derek Beckman and Snook (Glen Wignall) will be with us at Knoxville and other places too.”
The main focus this season will be the Knoxville 410 point chase. Brian was one spot short last season after suffering a couple nights of bad luck along the way. “We’re looking at the Knoxville point championship,” he assures. “We have a lot of good partners there that help us. It always pays really well, and it’s close to home. Everyone in the country knows by noon on Sunday who won at Knoxville, so that’s where we want to be. We were lucky enough to win it once (2007), but I feel like we’ve got some unfinished business after last year.”
The 410 action won’t be limited to Knoxville. Next week, Brian will take on the World of Outlaws at Lone Star Speedway and Houston Raceway Park. “Lee Nelson has built us some great 410 motors,” he says. “We’re going to run some Outlaw shows like next weekend. We want to run well with them at Knoxville too, like I felt we did last year. The Nationals are always circled on our calendar, and we’re really looking forward to that and the 360 Nationals. Those races are always the big ones on the schedule.”
The reopening of weekly racing on Fridays in Sedalia, Missouri should add to an already busy schedule. “I think we have around 85 races in twelve states on the schedule, so it will be good to run that many shows with so many different sanctions,” says Brian. “I think that makes you a better racer. It’s great brand exposure for FVP and that’s our #1 goal this year. We want to let the people know about the great products FVP has to offer, and grab a few wins along the way.”
Brian is sticking with the goal of 20 wins for 2010. “There’s no reason we can’t have a solid season this year,” he says confidently. “You always want to get off on the right foot, and we’ll be trying to do that in Texas. The Gulf South always brings a bunch of cars, and there will be some heavy hitters. It will be a good test to see if our hard work has paid off.”

Brian's Q&A
Alan Brooks asks: Are you excited about racing returning to Sedalia weekly this year?
Brian answers: We’re looking forward to Sedalia running on Friday nights again this year. Jason Bodenhamer and Reid Millard have put up the time and effort to bring local racing back to Sedalia. We’ll be there once or twice a month, and do whatever we can to support them. Sprint car racing belongs in the Sedalia area!

Brown's Bits
Brian will try to capture his second victory in the “Lone Star State” this weekend. The lone Texas win to date was a big one, however. He topped the inaugural Cowtown Nationals at the Cowtown Speedway near Kennedale with an exciting last lap pass of Jason Johnson. Jack Dover was third, ahead of Gary Wright and Wayne Johnson. The victory was worth $5,000.
