AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship point leader Kyle Cummins continues the pursuit of his initial USAC victory this Saturday when the series returns to the Midwest to compete at the Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway.
Cummins, of Princeton, Ind., who came short of the top-ten in all three of his USAC Lawrenceburg appearances in 2015, did record a trio of “podium” finishes last year and figures to be among favorites Saturday.
The 2016 season has begun with a flourish for Cummins, who recorded “podium” finishes in all three of the races at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla. in February. He enters Saturday’s race with an 18-point lead over Thomas Meseraull, who won the race at Lawrenceburg last October.
Third in the standings going into Saturday’s race is Bryan Clauson, who is in the midst of his “Circular Insanity” pursuit of competing in 200 races this season. Chase Stockon and Justin Grant round out the “top-five” in the current standings.
Dave Darland, whose last Lawrenceburg victory came in 2010, leads all drivers with six USAC wins there. Last year’s feature winners at the “Burg” included Logan Jarrett, Brady Bacon and Meseraull.
Darland also leads the all-time USAC AMSOIL winners’ list with 57 career victories and would like nothing better Saturday than to add to his all-time record list of consecutive seasons with at least one USAC National victory. His streak is currently at 23, having earned his first USAC National win in 1993!
