Michael Bookout, the 2015 OCRS "Hard Charger of the Year", started his 2016 season without skipping a heartbeat.
The Oil Capital Racing Series kicked off its 2016 season at Brill Motor Speedway in Meeker Oklahoma, the track at which Bookout started his racing career four years ago. The stout field of thirty four drivers who showed up included former series champions, seasoned racers, current and former ASCS drivers, and other competitors. After the night was over, Michael secured a Top Ten in the "A" Feature with an 8th place finish, leaving him tied for 7th in the season standings, the best start of his career.
The cold north wind brought down temps to the upper 30's by the time of the feature event. Finishing 3rd in his heat race enabled Bookout to start 10th in the "A" Feature. With a motor at less than 90% due to a short in a spark plug wire, he was still able to race the Triple X chassis, Finish Line Coatings, Ti22 Performance sprinter to 8th place by the time the checkered flag flew.
Taking a break of three weeks, the next OCRS event is scheduled at Lawton Speedway on April 9th.
