McMahan Perseveres at Thunderbowl Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series’ California swing kicked off on Saturday night, Paul McMahan and his Destiny Motorsports were able to overcome a tough heat race to finish 11th at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA.

“It was our first night without Scott Benic and it was tough at first, but the guys did a great job of settling into a groove, and we made it an okay night, which is sometimes not easy to do at the Thunderbowl Raceway,” said Paul McMahan.

A total of 39 cars were checked into the pit area, which put the series’ split qualifying groupings in play. Timing in 9th fastest in his group on a track that seemed to get fastest as the session went on, McMahan would line the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine up in the third row of the third heat race.

Battling Carson Macedo for the final transfer spot, McMahan would finish in the sixth spot, which put the Elk Grove, CA native in the night’s Last Chance Showdown.

From the front row of the semi, McMahan was able to jump out to the top spot and race his way to the win and more importantly transfer him into the 35-lap A Main event.

Lining up in the 21st starting position on a track that was not conducive to passing after heavy area rains in the days leading up to the race, McMahan settled into the race and avoided a couple of early incidents.

Able to pick up a few positions on his own as he searched around the wicked fast Thunderbowl Raceway, McMahan would also gain spots on the count of other drivers misfortune.

When the checkered flag flew on the feature, McMahan would close the night out with an 11th place finish aboard the Rick Rogers Construction/Maxim Chassis/FK Rod Ends backed No. 7 machine.

“Sometimes at Tulare you have to take what the track gives you, and that is just what we did Saturday,” McMahan added. “I was really proud of the team, and we will keep working at it this week and hopefully continue to improve at Stockton this weekend.”

Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Benic Enterprises, Rick Rogers Construction, Maxim Chassis, Boss Signs and Graphics, Driver Websites, Petersen Media, FK Rod Ends, Walker Performance Filtration, KSE Racing Products, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, Parker Engines, Keizer Wheels, DMI, Red Devil Brakes, Champion Oil, All Pro Cylinder Heads, Astro Titanium, and Hoosier Tire for their continued support.
