The K Corp sponsored Streaker Racing team kicked off 2016 with three winged races at Canyon Speedway Park as part of the Winter Challenge.
After a successful practice run on Thursday night, the team was ready to go for night 1. Jarrett would end up starting on the pole in Heat 2 and he wasted no time jumping out a huge lead and leading all 8 laps to win Heat 2.
That would put Jarrett on the outside of the front row for the 20 lap Main. Jarrett would battle for the lead on the first lap, running side by side at the flag stand to complete lap one, but a caution would wave soon after Jarrett would complete the pass on lap 2 for a wreck in turn 2. Jarrett would have to restart 2nd but wasted little time, making the pass for the lead heading into turn 1. Jarrett would be able to extend his lead to a straightaway over 2nd place before the 2nd caution of the night would come out for a wreck in turn 4. Jarrett would get off to a good start again and start to pull away from the field. But would only complete a few laps before the last caution of the night would fly for a car slowed in turn 1. Jarrett would again get off to a great start and start to pull away from the field. He was able to lead 19 of the 20 laps to go on to win night 1 of the Winter Challenge!
Jarrett would have a little more work to do on night 2 of the Winter Challenge. He would start 5th in Heat 1 and he went to work early going from 5th to 3rd on lap 1. He would make the pass for 2nd on lap two and quickly track down the leader. Jarrett was able to make the pass for the lead with about 3 laps to go heading into turn 3. He would pull away from the field from there and go on to win Heat 2.
Jarrett would be the night’s top qualifier and would start the Main in 6th.
Once the green flag dropped, Jarrett would go from 6th to 3rd going into turn 1 but the yellow would fly due to a bad start. On the restart Jarrett was able to pick up 2 positions coming out of turn 2 to move into 4th. Jarrett would battle for 3rd and be able to make the pass but the caution would fly before the lap was completed for a car spun around in turn 1. Jarrett would have to restart 4th with 17 laps to go. Jarrett would again battle for position. He would lose his momentum coming out of turn 4 when the leaders would have to check up for a lap car, allowing the 3rd place car to take the lead on the high side. Jarrett would be able to regain his momentum to pass both cars to move into 2nd. Jarrett would set his fastest lap with 9 to go on his way to tracking down the leader when the caution would come again. The leader was able to put some space between himself and Jarrett on the restart, but only 3 laps would be completed before the final caution would come out for a car stopped on the front stretch. Jarrett was able to keep with the leader on the restart but was never able to make a pass for the lead. He would go on to finish night 2 of the Winter Challenge in 2nd.
The third and final Micro Sprint night of the Winter Challenge would see Jarrett starting 9th in his heat. Jarrett was quickly able to move into 8th and by halfway he had picked up 2 more spots to move into 6th. Jarrett would track down 4th and 5th place from there and end up finishing the heat in 4th.
Jarrett would be lined up 6th for the Main. Much like the previous 2 nights, Jarrett wasted no time making moves and was in 3rd coming out of turn 2. He would make the pass for 2nd in turn 1 on lap 2 and take over the lead going into turn 3. Jarrett would quickly begin to pull away from the field from there. By lap 5 Jarrett would have a straightaway lead on 2nd place going into turn 3. Jarrett would make a slight mistake coming out of turn 2 on lap 7, which would allow 2nd place to close the gap and put a little pressure on Jarrett. Jarrett was able to correct his error and get back in rhythm to keep the lead. The 41H would close the gap a little more in the closing laps but Jarrett would change the line he was running and start to pull back away. Jarrett would go on to lead 19 laps to win night 3 of the Winter Challenge!
