Inside Line Promotions – LOXLEY, Ala. (March 9, 2016) – Seth Bergman has lofty aspirations for the 2016 season.

“I have big goals this year,” he said. “My goal is to win 30 races and win a national championship. I think we’re capable of that and it’s something I’m passionate about. I have to get going on these wins.”

Bergman added another mark in the win column last Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., during the inaugural ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints race. Bergman opened the event by maneuvering from sixth to third place during a heat race, which locked him into the feature redraw.

“Right off the bat your goal is to get yourself in the redraw to give yourself a realistic shot at winning,” he said. “We drew the No. 3 and went to work from there.”

Bergman quickly advanced into the runner-up position on the opening lap of the 25-lap main event. He then stalked the leader for approximately 10 laps before taking over the top spot on a restart.

“I got together with him on the frontstretch on a restart,” he said. “I caught his rear bumper and he got a little squirrely. It pushed him and it got him out of shape. I went to the outside and passed him before we got to turn one.

“At one point in the race I started cruising and I felt like I needed to search. I started working the top. Someone showed me a nose so as soon as I saw that I went back to the bottom.”

Bergman held on for his second straight victory, which propelled him into Saturday’s ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints event at Deep South Speedway.

“My goal was to go down there and win both races,” he said. “We got one of them and came up just a little short on the second one. We were good Friday and most of the night on Saturday. Had we made a couple of different changes we could have ended up with a different result.”

Bergman kicked off the night by winning a heat race, which earned enough points to make the feature redraw. He pulled the second-highest number – eight – during the random draw to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.

“We’re trying to get better and sometimes you get worse and learn what not to do,” he said. “I haven’t run this engine but a few times. We were playing with some gearing ratios and we went too far in one direction. I did everything I could do with what I had. If we had done one or two things different with the race car we could have had a shot at winning. It wasn’t the right call, but to end third with a race car that I didn’t feel was very good is something we can build on.”

Bergman ended with a third-place result.

He is scheduled to open the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour season this Friday and Saturday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.

“My goal is to win the national championship so I have to go into every weekend focused on getting the most out of every race,” he said. “Our mindset going into this is to win races. If you want to win this championship you’ll have to win races.”

Bergman captured four ASCS National Tour wins last season, which ranked second in the series.
